Sears Publishing Company

Sears Publishing Company is the trade name of Sears, LLC, an Alabama limited liability company founded in 2025 and based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It publishes evidence-informed medical, scientific and technical research with a focus on medicine at the margins: wilderness, expedition, military and extreme-environment medicine, and combat sports medicine, where resources are thin and the consequences of clinical decisions are greatest.

Founder

Casey C. Sears, B.A., NRP, FAWM, FEWM, is the founder, managing member and executive editor of Sears Publishing Company. A nationally registered paramedic with extensive EMS leadership and rural clinical experience, he is a medical educator, technical writer and editor whose work centres on emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, austere care and survival science. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, awarded by the Wilderness Medical Society, and holds a Fellowship in Wilderness and Extreme Medicine. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Fight Medicine.

Publications

Since 2025 the company has published books, peer-reviewed book chapters and field protocols, research articles and systematic reviews, and regulatory records, each registered with a Crossref Digital Object Identifier under the company's prefix. Its Outlast Medicine imprint produces clinical and field references for remote and austere practice, including the Wilderness Medicine Desk Reference series and The Backcountry Pharmacy. Its combat sports programme publishes research, assessment instruments and protocols for ringside physicians, commission medical staff and officials. Fight Medicine is the company's peer-reviewed journal of combat sports medicine.

Governance and standards

The company separates editorial control, metadata and identifier registration, and financial administration among distinct responsibilities so that publication, correction and identifier resolution continue without interruption. It follows the ICMJE Recommendations and the COPE Core Practices, makes its research available to read without charge, and maintains editorial independence from promotional, commercial and regulatory interests. Sears, LLC d/b/a Sears Publishing Company is a member of Crossref and holds an ISNI identifier.
